During a mandatory internship in DLR (Munich) from 03/08/2015 to 25/09/2015 I worked on two projects. The first project was dedicated to informal settlements of Manila, Cairo, Cape Town, Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, and Mumbai metropolitan regions. In general, informal settlements are usually located near to major roads, railways, and industrial sites. Also, they might have a high density and relatively small percentage of vegetation. In the project hypotheses related to informal settlement sizes, geomorphology, and proximity to city centers were tested. Specifically, it was proven that informal settlements conglomerations become larger with an increase of distance from the city center, and usually located on the steepest slopes. The second project was dedicated to investigation of the noise propagation dependence on orientation, density, shape, vertical size, and material of buildings.
